A Final Story to share from the Tournament -
The Novice Rosedale Canadiens participated in the House League Tournament this year, without "success" on the score board. In fact, they gave up 34 Goals. One of our Teams from the Midget HL Division - the London Wild - stood behind the Goalie in the Canadiens End, and everytime he was able to make a save, they Cheered and hollered POSITIVE encouragement to him. As you can tell by the Scoring against him, he needed the encouragement. They continued to do this, and moreso adopted this young child to their team.
On Wednesday, the House League Championship Day, London made it to the Finals against our own Rosedale Flyers. This young Goalie from the Novice Canadiens, along with his Mom & Dad, made sure to return the favour. Wearing a Team London jersey, our young goalie stood with his parents, on his fathers' knee, behind the Wilds' Goalie. With every save made, this young boy yelled, cheered, and slammed on the windows, encouraging his new team mates on.
London went on to beat the Flyers, and win the championship. The Coaching staff went to the young Goalie from Rosedale, and brought him onto the ice after the game, and put him in the position of honour - right in the middle of the Team for the Championship Picture. After the team had accepted their medals, and had left the ice, a member of their Coaching staff came to the Office, and advised they were one medal short for their team. A "Gold" Medal was given to the team, who in turn presented it to their Novice Team Mate from Rosedale.
THIS is why we play hockey. THIS is why we encourage our youth to participate in Team Sports. A very special thanks goes to our Friends in London who made this tournament a special memory to a young child from Hamilton.
A must see for all hockey parents. This young man knows what
he is talking about.
